Credit Score

Your credit score significantly impacts the mortgage terms you receive, including the interest rate. Obtain a copy of your credit report from the major credit bureaus and check for errors. Aim for a high credit score (typically 700 or above) to get the best loan conditions. Talk to your lender about ways to help improve your credit score as well. You can start working on your credit while shopping for a home, and a good lender may even suggest some ways to improve your score while you are under contract to get you a better rate by closing day! This is one of the value-adds of a really good lender.
